A Candy For Your Thought?

A small little kid , her hair dishevelled asked me, " Ate, magkano po ito?" ( Ate in Filipino could refer to an older relative, peer or a female older than he/she is), pointing her little finger to a jar of chocolate candies nearby." One fifty" ( which actually is 1 peso and fifty centavos ), I answered. Upon hearing such, she shook her head and move a step backwards and was about to leave. A few seconds later she seemed to have changed her mind, and settled for the other candy bar priced  at one peso instead.

It would seemed that kids also know how hard economy nowadays are. Foods which are anything higher than  "piso" ( one Philippine peso ) is regarded as pricey and are "not pasok" to their budget (unaffordable). I coined it as the Filipino Kids' One |Peso Rule Policy. If it is not one peso, then forget it.

Regardless of such, it would not stop kids from being kids happy to have a piso in their pocket to buy cheap chichiryas ( junkfoods). Of course the more the piso they  are given, the merrier they are. And cheap does not necessarily equates to junkfoods that are less appetizing . In fact, some are suprisingly good, like these candies are. Even adults would love it . I choose these line of candies because they are among of the latest craze in the Filipino candy world and they only cost  "piso" each.

These blister pack candies are so good I promised myself I would bring them along in my trips as I usually get nauseous especially if I ride on airconed vehicles. They are a perfect blend of  sweet , fruity with a li'l soury aftertaste. The kids called them gamut -gamutan as they seemed to resemble medicines in form of tablets.

These chewy soft candies actually come in five flavors . Not included here are the peanut  and the caramel flavored candies. The caramel flavored' has been already sold out and I have not yet bought a pack of it to refill in my jars. I never have the peanut flavored because nobody is asking for it. If you have a very sweet tooth, then these candies are suited for you.

This candy is perhaps inspired from the custard candy. At first look it may seems to be your typical hard candy but it is actually chewy . It is both milky and caramely in taste. What I love about it is it has chocolate fillings inside. The best way to eat this is to bite it in the center  so that the filling comes out and  then chew it. Just make sure that you do not finish this up and be careful because it actually sticks hard in the palate of your mouth.

Chocnuts, anyone? Who would  not love them? These candy bars which are a mixture of grind peanuts and chocolate are still among the favorites of adult and children alike of all time. I heard also that  there are already choc nut ice creams in the market.. The original size of the choc nut bars is still available but it would cost more than one peso, hence the smaller size was created... I considered the polvorons in the family of the choc nuts as they are powdery. I thought the polvorons are uniquely Pinoy .It turns out it is also popular in Spain and Latin America.
